If you aren’t eating enough fiber or a mix of the right foods, then you simply aren’t evacuating enough. If you don’t have enough bowel movements, that waste material can end up being stored by the body and the end result is that it turns into toxins. This is nothing that you may want to think about, but it can contribute to an unhealthy and improperly working system in the body.

Start to look at ways that you can promote proper digestion and elimination. Drinking more water and ensuring that you are never dehydrated is one way—keep flushing out the bad toxins. Eating the right foods with a major focus on fiber is another way, and an important one that ensures that you move the waste material out of the body. When you turn to packaged foods for convenience, they are normally loaded with additives and preservatives. Though you may be getting fewer calories and fat with these foods, their manmade ingredients are wreaking havoc on your body.

Any type of packaged food, whether it seems healthy or not, is made with additives and preservatives of some type. Just like pesticides, these can and will build up in your intestines as toxins over time. You will feel slowed down and may exhibit other symptoms that make you sick. It’s not a good scenario!

Get rid of the obviously unhealthy packaged foods that are loaded with fat, but take it one step further. Just because a food appears to be healthy or “diet ready” doesn’t mean that it’s good for you. If it’s loaded down with additives, preservatives, chemicals, or ingredients that you can’t pronounce, that directly translates to toxins in your digestive system. Get rid of them and you begin to really cleanse your system immediately!

23. Eliminate common sources of toxins such as excessive caffeine, alcohol, tobacco, and processed foods.

The very things that you turn to for bad habits or use to help relax you can be contributing to your inability to cleanse. These substances or bad habits translate directly or indirectly to toxins in the body. The end result is that they keep you from being healthy and may actually make you sick.

The most obvious is tobacco in any form, but of course smoking being the most common type. Smoking offers only harmful substances into your body such as nicotine, which of course can contribute to long term health problems.

You might not realize it, but excessive alcohol or caffeine can act much in the same way. Having a bit of caffeine or alcohol isn’t the problem, but when you binge or drink too much of either, it’s not a good thing. Over time these can turn into toxins that the body can’t process. You will feel the dependence and the health problems will keep mounting.

The same goes for processed foods, fried foods, or others that are made with unnatural ingredients. Anything that doesn’t come from the earth or that has chemically enhanced ingredients isn’t good for your ability to naturally cleanse or feel healthy and strong.

Kicking bad habits is just as important in a healthy lifestyle as is adapting to the right ones. Just as you want to focus on eating right, exercising, and getting plenty of rest, you also want to be sure to get rid of the bad habits that are holding you back.     Quick question on #26, you list these recipes here and say it’s good to do this cleanse once a month but my question is: Is this recipe a full day cleanse? Is this, something you should be making and drinking all day every hour/every couple hours or just drink once during the day and eat normally the rest of that day per month?

      Julie,

      The article isn’t terribly clear as to what kind of cleanses they are. The first one does specify once a month on an empty stomach, I would assume you should wait a few hours at least before resuming your usual diet. The second one specifies plenty of water following the cleanse, and allows for light eating a while afterward. However, being unclear or not, I would still consult with a nutritionist about taking on any kind of cleanse as they may have better recommendations to suit your personal needs.

        I agree with so much of these natural remedies. I’m sick tho with sle lupus. And now in process trying to quit smoking. However I’m unsure what you mean by cleansing the colon. So many has recommended organic coffee enimas. Being on fixed income some things are hard to do. But am taking garlic. Started lemon water again. N few others u named but what about colon tho,?     Since the ‘Monsanto Protection Act’ I have been boycotting any unknown foods in my family’s diet. I feel great! I have no more symptoms of IBS and increased energy. My husband, not so much. He is so use to toxic foods that his digestive tract is on the frits with the introduction to pure foods. Do you have any suggestions on how I can help him? A cleanse or detox of some kind?

      This is from a healing response. Unless it is truly bad he should just get through it. Of course by now it’s a moot point. This happens when people go to an all raw food diet as well. Hope he is feeling better now.

    It is not a good idea to recommend people choose home remedies for illness rather than antibiotics. If someone needs antibiotics, they have a bacterial infection. Home remedies are great for a lot of things, but they cannot replace antibiotics. Some bacterial infections can lead to death if left untreated.

      Antibiotics are sadly overused in this country. In many (if not most) cases, an otherwise healthy person can fight off an infection without them. The article doesn’t advise that no one EVER use antibiotics. They should be a last resort, though. Every time you use them you weaken your body’s natural defenses and throw it out of balance. Most people could take the time to truly learn their body’s signals instead of running to a clinic for antibiotics “just in case”. Yes, there are times when they are necessary, but if you know your own body you will know when you are out of your league dealing with an infection.

      I’m not a medical professional, but I am 41 years old and haven’t had antibiotics in almost twenty years. I don’t get flu shots, either, and I work with thousands of people every flu season. Our bodies are stronger than we think!

      I think a home remedy before antibiotics is a good idea. If it works then you don’t have to take the antibiotics and risk building immunity to them. Obviously if the home remedy dsnt work then people would notice a still present infection and hopefully seek alternative treatments.

        Personally i have never taken an antibiotic in my life, usually if I am feeling sick I have a ginger and lemon tea for a couple of days and then am perfectly fine.Even when I have a headache I drink iced water with a slice of lemon in it and then I have a couple of hours of rest.Nothing works better then home remedies.

      That is absolutely not true! I have cleared out bacterial infections naturally with Pau d Arco. I have shared this with my family and friends with great results.

      Allicin (derived from Garlic) has been known to rid the body of MRSA; a dangerous and antibiotic resistant form of Staph. There have been patients cured of MRSA in England by using Allicin. Even antibiotics can’t do that.

    Generally good tips, except green, black and white teas should be eliminated from all diets because they are naturally extremely high in fluoride even though they contain also antioxidant components which can be obtained elsewhere. For instance, one cup of black tea contains over eleven times the EPA’s recommended daily dosage of fluoride where fluoride is actually not necessary for any biological functions in the body. Fluoride is actually a very potent poison and should be avoided, especially by children. Check it out.

      you’re saying these teas should be completely eliminated? I disagree. it would take a gallon a day for ten plus years to develop something like skeletal fluorosis. tea is absolutely more beneficial than no tea.

    I’ve either studied too much or the internet is full of the same information,
    but I really want to see information about health that I don’t know.
    I would like to see more specialized information, such as the science and history behind it. There are quite a lot of sites giving lists of things to do and not do, and a lot of people who still have trouble are not getting anywhere because that isn’t enough.

    I am sure this is very useful for many people out there though. 🙂

This helps one to truly understand the entire picture and not just what you’re suggesting or recommending. Substance and validity are the meat and potatoes or as I would say; the nucleus foundation for a healthier way of life.

    Great great tips about Detoxifying the body. And I love the tip that you share about “Sweating It Out”. Because you have to get rid of the toxins in the body by flushing them out by any means. And when you are exercising at an intense rate and turn down the AC, then you give your body a chance to perspire and sweat out the toxins. Great share, James.

    While I enjoyed getting the recipes, there are a few things wrong with this post. First of all, organic foods are grown with pesticides too. Sometimes more pesticides than conventional foods since they are not genetically enhanced to be more resistant to pests. I think you’re just confusing what “organic” actually means. It’s not that organic doesn’t use any of those things (pesticides, preservatives, etc) just that it hasn’t been genetically altered.

    Also I agree with Andrea about the antibiotics. You can be the most healthy person on the planet but you can still get sick. Yes, if your diet is better your immune system is better but that doesn’t mean you’re completely impervious to disease. If you get a bacterial infection you should take antibiotics. Simple as that.

    Also (and this isn’t related to the post directly but a previous comment), the fluoride content in tea is no reason to stop drinking it. Here’s a website that sums up what researchers have concluded about fluoride in black tea (http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2010/07/100714104059.htm). So unless you’re literally drinking 1-2 GALLONS of tea EVERY SINGLE DAY for 20-30 YEARS, then I think you’re fine.

      Organic means that the product is grown without pesticides. Farmers use all natural products with the food; such as: oregano with chickens, diatomaceous earth with garden vegetables, etc.

    Antibitotics is fine for those who have severe infection . But i took antibiotic and im damage by it . I must listen to my body rather than people told me or my doctor i have simple infection , but have lot of health problems now because of that drug .       I agree with you Canie. I’m 23 years old and I’ve have more than 10 rounds of antibiotics in the last 6 years. I recall an average of 2 a year and since this January I’ve already had 4, all of which were a very high dosage of 3 pills a day for 10 days because I am now immune to the “regular” kind. I can’t get rid of a common cold, it lingers for weeks, my immune system is shot and useless. There have been times when I severely needed antibiotics, but I’d say no more than 5 out of the literally countless time were actually necessary.
      I’m very grateful for this site as it has multiple ways to rid of toxins and really, we should be doing (arguably I’m sure) all of them. Thank you for sharing!

    The only issue I have sometimes with trying to detox/cleanse is keeping on track, if I do it by myself, through diet, etc. I prefer getting packs, you know the ones that are delivered to your house with instructions and everything you need. I’m not sure what you think of these, but I’ve had 3 so far and to be honest they work really really well for me, maybe it’s because they are more difficult and in a concentrated amount of time. My favourite so far is the one from ninedaycleanse dot co, it’s pretty straightforward and works with my body really well, I even lose weight from it!

    Can you smoke marijuana? or would it be alright to cape or eat edibles? Or does THC count as a toxin? The other effects for the body seem like it would be beneficial.

      Kyle, I don’t know much about marijuana, but I do it – smoke, eat, vape, capsule whatever. There is tar residue which isn’t very good. Vapour I’ve been told 1 ups smoking. Etibles are a completely different high than smoking and I would assume if it’s made with “organic” (I quote cause some people rather focus on controversy than helpful tips) ingredients it’s much better. Those all have THC and get you high. There are however CBDs they don’t get you high in forms of capsule, etible and syringe – others? I don’t know. CBDs aren’t 100% THC free but very close and not noticeable in your every day tasks. CBDs are very well known in the cancer community for replacing chemo. I’m not saying chose it over chemo, but if I ever got cancer I would. However, I don’t know enough to give you a yes or no answer, but personally speaking if you’re doing a cleanse and you’re cutting out all other food? Cut out everything questionable which would include marijuana. Because why not? And residue or tar is a toxin. And I’m pretty sure cleanses aren’t longer than a week so hopefully you can go that long without it. In the case you can’t, arguably, It is a plant and natural and organic and green 😉 – Just be wary of the way it is made, who makes it, all that crap. A certain kind of shatter has too much butane and gives my boyfriend wicked migraines – again watch how it’s made. Cheap food makes you feel like shit, so does cheap shatter product. Hope this helps..??? Go for green!

    Actually for the lemonade detox it’s not just any organic maple syrup it’s Grade B maple syrup that has to be used. The reason for that is because of the nutrients Grade B maple syrup has to offer; that the body will need due to the fasting. You can find it at your nearest whole foods market.

There are many raw fruits, vegetables and herbs one can ingest for detoxification… but here is a little thing that my mom does every day before she eats or drinks anything in the morning: she pours boiled water on a bunch of parsley (as much as you can fit in a mug, including the roots) and drinks it. I like your cleanse drink recipes however I am alergic to fresh Cayenne Pepper. I can use it once it has been heated through. So my question is, in the Lemon, Maple and Cayenne drink would it affect the result if I heated the Cayenne through first?

    Great article. A great way of maintainng your immune system high is to keep your intestine as clean & healthy as possible. I do a detox diet once a year with a powder made out of 120 nutrients and pysillium as the main one. Moreover one glass of lukewarm water with fresh lemon juice (organic lemons only) every morning before breakfast helps a lot too! 🙂

    I have a hookworm Paracite in me. Will this detox help. I cannot afford the 90day cleanse I also have auto immune desiese scleroderma / Lupus I think I’ve had it for yrs but didn’t know. I’ve had 2 iron infusions in the past. And recently GYN dr told me I was anemic again w/ auto immune I also have raynauds in my hands Which they ulserate I think that’s how it got into my system Now it’s bad. I won’t get into other issues I’m embarrassed to have at least I can be honest w/ O You seeing me.
