    READ up on the dangerous effects of Iodide/Iodine first before taking anything! I supplemented with 4 drops/day (for only one day then I read up) Lugols Solution 2% (recommended by tons of websites and articles etc.) . Found out that its toxic/corrosive and can cause hypothyroidism or cause hyperthyroidism (which would result in having to take medications for the rest of your life for messing up your thyroid) all because of a hunch.

    The suggestions in this article are put very nicely and without caution naively. Get a blood test for iodide deficiency first. I don’t know about kelp but seeing that its natural is safer than any chemically or synthetically made. Research research research .

      Please indicate sources or csse studies where you heard Iodine causes thyroid problems. Iodine defecency causes more problems and this has been proven by many doctor’s . Google MD David Brownstein and Dr Sherry Tenpenny who have done extensive studies and have thousands of patients to back claims it is worse to be deficient

    I know about iodine and it’s functions in the body and I would not recommend one of these products. There is not enough good iodine supplements on the market to make a top ten list. Not one quality product was even mentioned.

      I have come across an iodine supplement called “Idin”. Its a colourless and odourless liquid (like water), claiming no side effect. I understand this patented product will be available soon .

      I feel these are top brands of iodine. Jensen dulse tablets are great but such a low dose for the stresses and toxins of a 2017 world that too many have to be taken to wake up the thyroid. Remember Iodine is next to fluorine, chlorine and bromine on the periodic tabe of minerals as halides, and as such, they all compete for the same receptor sites on the thyroid. That is why high dose iodine is needed in today’s world.

    It would appear, based on the comments above, that not one of these people is capable of providing any accurate insight into the usage, dosing, or the potential side effects of iodine supplements… I still don’t know source that was utilized by “Roxy”, or the “quality product” that “Jared” claims isn’t mentioned in the his article. “Janice” provides a random, & incomplete sentence, (really more of a statement), about arsenic & heavy metals; with respect to what, the iodine supplements? If so, which ones? Or Just iodine in general? That’s a pretty serious allegation if it’s in reference to a particular company that’s producing iodine supplements,…If there is any truth to it, why hasn’t a source been listed including the brands to avoid? Seems like these people (like most) are just repeating what theyve hear, or read… I don’t see any valuable, or intelligent “advice” from any of the comments above. Does anyone consider their sources of information before they mindlessly repeat it, as though it were personal attained knowledge…?     I see that Icelandic Kelp is recommended. I read a UC Davis study outlining a case study regarding arsenic in kelp, and the study itself that names Icelandic Kelp as the product containing the arsenic. In fact, 8 of 9 kelp supplements tested showed arsenic. Could you address this, please? Case Report: Potential Arsenic Toxicosis Secondary to Herbal Kelp Supplement,

He recommends Lugol’s iodine-iodide or Iodoral, the pill form of Lugol’s ALONG WITH THE PROTOCOL of supplements developed by iodine literate MDs and submitted at a conference in 2007.     About 2 years ago, routine bloodwork showed that I had a very high level of TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone), but normal to low levels of T4 (Thyroxine). We kept an eye on it for months, and I tried all kinds of dietary restrictions to see what if any of it was causing the problem. I knew that Iodine is important for thyroid health, so I started researching symptoms of iodine deficiency, and natural iodine supplementation. After about 6 months of tests, with nothing making a difference, I decided to start an iodine supplementation regime. I made sure to not drastically change my dietary or medication/supplementation intake for about two months before starting the kelp supplementation, in order to be able to accurately judge the effects. I started taking Nature’s Way Kelp and immediately noticed a difference, but not in the way that you would think. I felt awful, like I had the beginnings of the flu: Sore Throat, Body Aches, Feverish. I was concerned, so I did my research, and found that this is common, because your body is detoxing. In the absence of available Iodine, your body grabs on to stuff like Bromine, Fluorine, and Chlorine to use instead. When the Iodine becomes available, your body purges the bad stuff so that it can grab onto the now available Iodine. After a few days, the symptoms abated. After about a week, I was back to normal. Better than normal. I had more energy, my mind was sharper (I’m an engineering student, so that’s important). Within four months I had lost 15 lbs. I’m not obese, so 15 lbs with about 10 more to go to get back to my army physique is saying something. I don’t know about the Arsenic, or other potentially bad things that can be found in kelp, but I know that I would take it and feel the way I do now rather than the way things were before. I’m not a doctor, or an expert in biology. I just wanted to relay my experiences with others that may be facing similar issues.

    you are missing a great one that addresses discomfort in breasts with your menstrual cycle. Its called Violet iodine ( I started taking this about 6 months ago and it’s been a godsend. No more tender breasts. They say it is molecular iodine that uptakes more to breast tissue than thyroid. Good for overall breast health too, even if you don’t have tender, swollen, achy or heavy breasts with your period.
